Hallwise is a standalone digital hall pass. Here's what switching involves, what it costs, and what it doesn't do.

$999 a year for the whole school, whatever its size. Enrollment changes don't change the price, and there's no setup fee.
Sign in with the school Google account and your classes are already there. A teacher is set up in under five minutes, and a whole school can be live the same day.
Students tap their name on a Chromebook by the door, or open a Google Classroom Quick Link on their own device. It works even where the district blocks student Google sign-in.
Teachers or admins can flag student pairs, and an admin can turn on pass limits and cooldowns when the school wants them. One exemption list covers all three, and the teacher issuing a pass can override a block for that pass. Emergency lockdown blocks new passes school-wide.
Sign in with Google, name the school and share the staff join link. The “Set up your school” video (2:14) walks through it.
Teachers join from the link and their Google Classroom classes sync. Each teacher pins the class pass link in Google Classroom, or opens the kiosk on a shared Chromebook by the door.
The 60-day trial includes the full School Plan with no payment required. If the school doesn't continue, the account drops to the free Solo plan rather than shutting off.
Step-by-step videos for admins, teachers and students are on the tutorials page.
$999 a year for the whole school, with no setup fee and no per-student pricing. Pay by invoice or card. For a district quote, email hello@hallwise.com.
SmartPass doesn't publish a price list; it quotes per student. One public figure is a 2025 Frederick County, Maryland contract award at $3.15 per student. At that rate, $999 covers about 320 students, so the flat price costs less for larger schools and the gap grows with enrollment. Quotes vary by district, so compare against yours.
SmartPass pricing: 2025 Frederick County, MD procurement awarding SmartPass at $3.15 per student, checked July 2026. Verify pricing directly with each vendor.
If your school relies on any of these, Hallwise may not be the right fit.
Yes. Hallwise doesn't connect to SmartPass, so nothing has to be switched off first. A school can run the 60-day trial with some or all of its staff and decide before its current contract renews.
Not automatically; Hallwise can't import them from another system. Teachers or admins flag student pairs in the Hallwise dashboard, and an admin turns on any pass limits or cooldowns. Every restriction starts off for a new school, so nothing applies until you set it up.
Starting the 60-day trial about two months before your current contract renews gives the whole staff a full trial before you have to decide. Mid-year works too, since teachers' Google Classroom classes are already there when they sign in.
Yes. An admin can export the school's pass history to Excel from the admin dashboard while the plan is active, so export it before the plan ends. For a copy of anything else, or to have the school's data deleted, email hello@hallwise.com.
